I know Tokyo isn't exactly on the Sailing Collective itinerary route, but the city is en route to our adventures. It's also a bucket-list urban destination that many Sailing Collective travelers venture to. For me, I have used our Thailand, Indonesia, and Hong Kong itineraries as an excuse to have a layover in Tokyo, even for just a day or two.
The city is impressive—overtly orderly and busy, like a well-charged electrical circuit board. The streets are a labyrinth, mystifying in how they all link together, as though you could walk from one end to another with ease, knowing well that it would take a week, at least.
In my opinion, you need no lists. Restaurants crowd into each block, and each of them happens to be delicious, too. Throw a dart at a map, choose a random metro station to get off at—you'll be fully occupied. But a compass is always useful, even when looking at a sunrise.
Save this list on your phone and use it as a north star. Don't guide your trip in Tokyo by it, but use it as a reference. Maybe you need a break and there's a café a few blocks away. Or you just can't find the style of ramen you're looking for. Or you need a hidden bar. Each of these locations is excellent, vetted, and worthy of your enjoyment.
