ABOUT YOUR SAILING COLLECTIVE JOURNEY As you sail along the west coast of Grenada, small settlements dot the shoreline connected by a road along the water's edge. The land above the coast climbs dramatically to densely forested mountaintops where mona monkeys swing from the trees. On the horizon ahead are green islands fringed by reefs, and your sails are trimmed to take you there across deep and wild waters. Strong ocean currents, confused seas, and active undersea volcanoes all conspire to keep you away, but venturing into the Grenadines is a journey worth embarking on.

The Grenadines is a group of thirty-some-odd islands extending about 50 miles between St Vincent and Grenada. These southernmost of the Windward Islands are so extraordinary they are worthy of an entire winter’s exploration. The archipelago is a mix of sandy cays and small volcanic islands that together creates biodiversity sparsely seen in the Caribbean. St George’s on Grenada is the preferred departure port for the southern grenadines with its position giving sailors options to explore along the craggy south coast of Grenada and take advantage of the trade winds for an out-and-back voyage.

St George’s

St George’s is true to its roots, architectural details convey the antiquity of the city and its role as an important port. Beginning a sailing voyage in St George’s offers wonderful provisioning options for the boat embarking on a voyage through the Grenadines. Follow the locals to the street markets that spring up along the main road where farmers sell fresh produce out of the back of pickup trucks every morning. Traditional Ital food stands, the natural vegetarian cuisine of the Rastafarian people, make fresh juices and teas.

Ronde Island

Ronde Island is the geographic sister of Kick ‘em Jenny and has the rough edges of a recently formed island. Cliffs drop straight into the ocean and crumble onto sandy beaches that hug the shoreline. Only a small seasonal fishing village exists on one end of this otherwise uninhabited island.

Carriacou

The open horizon to westward offers remarkable views of the sun setting over the Caribbean Sea off the back of your boat while you float at anchor. Dinghy ashore and enjoy a local feast at the Lazy Turtle or any of the local seaside restaurants offering fish and rum. A fisherman harvests a unique Caribbean oyster that are about the size of a coin. After you finish your anchoring procedures, he’ll often dinghy alongside your boat and sell these small but fantastically sweet and delicious delicacies.

Sandy Island

Sitting just west of Carriacou in the protection of its lee is a small skinny island with a few palm trees growing along a fine-grained white beach. Ashore is the allure of the desert island, once you have arrived, the humdrum of outside life leaves you alone and you settle into a pace that is solely the wind in the palms and the waves lapping at the sand. A perfect anchorage before sailing north or as a stop on your way back south.

Tobago Cays

Locals in their colorfully painted and cleverly named speedboats are busy in the park offering a wide variety of services. Ice, trash pickup, and souvenirs will all come right to you and each one will offer to arrange a lobster cookout dinner on the beach at Petit Bateau. The protected waters are home to many Sea turtles and plenty of fish, rays, sea stars, and coral on the outer reef.

Mayreau

The beach is lined with local establishments on the southern end and has beautiful bright sand and coconut palms along its entire stretch. On the windward side of this peninsula, there is a long beach that is perfect for kiteboarders of all skill levels and will often be dotted with colorful kites.

General Information

Provisioning Sailing Collective will provision your journey with local foods and produce. Cooking Aboard: Your Sailing Collective chef/crew is incredibly talented and can handle the group's needs with ease. We are all about participation and learning, so if you'd like to help, just ask and we'll get you involved! Collective groups may choose to dine out more times than scheduled if the group or individuals choose.

Dietary Restrictions We can accommodate as long as we know in advance! It is important to notify us of any dietary restrictions ahead of time and include full details in the Guest Form that you will fill out prior to the start of the trip.

Sailing a group journey is a collective experience calling us to ebb and flow with the tides of the group. While alcohol and soft beverages are not included, we find a well curated bar shared across the group works out best. We offer two beverage during group journeys packages during the course of the week:

$150 for wine, beer, spirits and soft beverages
$75 for soft beverages and under 5 alcoholic drinks. *Private charters, beverages are billed to the charter

You can also choose to bring your own beverages on board at no cost. Beverages through our package options will be provisioned for by your crew based on the preferences shared in your guest forms. Alternatively, if you plan to purchase your beverages separately, it is best to stock up before we depart the marina! Private Journey guests will receive information from crew about alcohol provisioning, which we can handle on your behalf. Morning beverages and water are included for all guests.

Please confirm your package choice within your guest form so your crew can plan accordingly!

ADDITIONAL COSTS We recommend planning on having at least $300 – $600 in spending money depending on spending habits. You will be responsible for paying for:

All expenses on shore including meals and drinks
Flights and transportation to and from the marina location
Onboard beverages
Gratuity (a 10% to 20% offering)

GRATUITY Tipping your captain and crew is welcomed. If you are satisfied with your service, the industry standard for yacht charters ranges from 10-20% of the cost of the charter. Gratuity is split evenly between the crew and can be paid via cash, check, Venmo, or PayPal. Please contact your Sailing Collective Journey Coordinator if you have any questions.

PACKING LIST Collapsible bags in place of large rigid suitcases are advised for ease of transport on and off the boat. Loading and unloading from the dingy can be a wet activity, a pair of shoes such as flip-flops that you can get wet if we are landing on a beach.

As the vast majority of your time will be spent outside, prepare for elements - bring a light raincoat just in case, a hat to shield yourself from the sun, and a warm layer. Throughout the week we may dine out at a nice restaurant, so bring an outfit looks nice and suits your style. Loading and unloading from the dingy on beaches can be a wet activity, a pair of shoes that you can get wet is recommended.

The Journey Schedule Meeting time is at 9:00am on Day 1 of the charter and we embark shortly after settling in. We return back to port on Friday evening by 5:00pm and disembark between 8-9:00am on Saturday.

Travel Insurance We recommend purchasing a travel insurance policy that protects you in case of general and covid-related trip interruptions. If you choose not to purchase travel insurance, you forfeit the right to a refund or credit in the event you have to cancel your trip with Sailing Collective.

PASSPORTS AND VISAS Please ensure your passport is valid for the period of travel and for six months after you return. The Sailing Collective cannot be held responsible for refusal of entry or travel due to lack of visas. If you are in any doubt please contact your Embassy for full details.

WEATHER Throughout the month of June/July daytime temperatures will generally reach highs of around 27°C that's about 80°F. At night the average minimum temperature drops down to around 20°C, that's 68°F. The average daily wind speed in June has been around 11 km/h, that’s equivalent to about 7 mph, or 6 knots. In June, for the nearest coastal location, the temperature of the sea averages around 22°C, that's 72° Fahrenheit.

CURRENCIES / MONEY EXCHANGE The currency is the Euro, Mastercard and Visa chip cards are accepted widely in larger stores and restaurants but you may need cash for independent, small businesses. You can find ATMs at the marinas and banks. We recommend bringing cash with you to the smaller islands as smaller vendors often prefer cash over card.

And behind the helm station, a huge modular recreation area conceals a storage area large enough to store all the cushions. Three and four double cabins available Island double beds for the aft cabins and beds with side access for the forward cabins, the aft cabins benefit from a bathroom with a separate shower, very large windows in the cabins offer excellent illumination and magnificent views of the surroundings, the vertical glazing in the coachroof provides saloon illumination: a well-lit, comfortable environment that is perfectly balanced between the galley and saloon areas, the U-shaped galley, fully fitted with broad work surfaces and extensive storage space, is oriented towards the external cockpit.
