Dodecanese Islands

Dodecanese Archipelago

The Hidden Islands

A Group Voyage | Spend a week island hopping some of the most unique, remote, and beautiful islands in all of Greece while living aboard a modern catamaran crewed by an illustrious SC Team. With culinary artists sourcing only local foods and a captain who will find the most remote coves, this week is not to miss!

Located in the southeast Aegean Sea, the Dodecanese Islands are dramatic and exciting; drastic cliffs slope down into the sea with protected anchorages scattered throughout the rural and rustic itinerary. Fifteen picturesque islands with a mix of glamour and rustic vibes make up the archipelago, and there’s a good reason they became popular with ambitious sailors setting out for solitude and excitement.

Sailing a voyage here is thrilling -- the changing scenery from north to south provides tremendous juxtaposition from the busy ports of Kos and Rhodes to the smaller island communities that lie in comparative obscurity. No two communities are alike with the history, migration, and merging of cultures that has influenced this region.

  • Starting Port: Kos Marina

  • Recommended Airport: Kos Airport (KGS)

We’re excited to announce that this is now a flotilla!

Itinerary Options

Kos - The island of Kos has a protected marina where many of the boats in the archipelago reside year round. It also happens to be one of the busiest spots in the Dodecanese. A once sleepy, bohemian town that’s had a touristy overhaul throughout the past 30 years, Kos bears the brunt for the majority of tourism in the northern parts of the Dodecanese.

Pserimos - Sailing north from Kos is the island of Pserimos, a lovely and sparsely inhabited island that’s home to a few little villages and scattered homesteads where people can be found living a relatively self-subsistent existence not so dissimilar to their ancestors way of life before tourism swept through the islands.

Patmos - Sailing northwest you’ll find the island of Patmos. Perhaps the most prestigious in the group, it’s still easy to see that Patmos had a day when times were simple and traditional. Pulling into the island feels wildly impressive and eerie.

Lipsi - Lipsi is an island that is known for its simple charm and humble appearance. Its lack of roads and old-world Greek appearance make Lipsi a blissfully serene spot. When arriving to the island by sea, numerous blue-domed churches cover the horizon.

Leros - The island has a charm all its own that comes from its dramatic landscapes, brown-hued highland interior and fertile valleys. Much of this island’s income is from their practice of sending ships to North Africa every year to fish for sponges. Leros has rounded hills on high and lush countryside along the shore that’s full of green forests with hibiscus, jasmine, bougainvillea, and oleander growing wild.

Kalymnos - The island of Kalymnos is north from Pserimos and home to many extraordinary coves that are protected from the prevailing wind. One of the best coves to drop anchor is Palionisos located along the northeast side of the island; a non-touristic cove serving locals and sailors. This emerald blue inlet is captivating and inviting, with its surrounding dramatic cliffs that provide protection from the wind.

Tharuka Pathirana

Tharuka Pathirana

Captain, Instructor

Tharuka from land-locked Austria (which nevertheless has a long historic tradition in sailing), born and raised in the town of Graz, had his first experience sailing on a lake in Austria as a teenager years ago and immediately fell in love with sailing. It took a couple more years until he was able to fulfil his ambition of becoming a sailor, but he now owns the Austrian Yachtmaster Offshore license (BFA FB3), the Croatian Skipper license B, the German Coastal and Inshore Iicense (SBF See und Binnen (Sail + Motor)), the German LRC radio license and the MCA STCW10 certificate and is planning to acquire the German Yachtmaster Offshore and the British/RYA Yachtmaster Offshore licenses in the near future. He spends as much time as possible on the water (mainly the Adriatic, along the Croatian coast and around its islands, but generally in the whole Mediterranean Sea, such as the Greek, Italian and Spanish waters, and the Atlantic) also partaking in regattas (both inshore, such as on J70s at the Austrian Sailing National League, and offshore) whenever possible. Working as a professional skipper since 2015 and now with his own boutique nautical services agency, he has logged over 21.000+ nm in that time (with one Atlantic crossing so far), on more than 60 different types of sailing yachts from 18' to 60', monohulls (common charter yachts, long keel classics, modern performance yachts and small racers), catamarans (from 38' to 56') and trimarans (Dragonfly 28, Neel 47), as a for-hire holiday skipper (solo and flotilla, also as lead skipper), instructor (instructing sailing with crew, short-handed, double-handed and single-handed, offshore and inshore, adults and kids from age 3 to teens) and during regattas (fully crewed, double-handed, Austrian National League, ...). He undertakes professional yacht deliveries and also works as skipper/personal sail instructor/engineer/navigator/consultant for yacht owners on their own vessel.
